A testimonial from Peter Mcgrath regarding Joe Grado's new microphone
Peter's bio history
I have been involved in classical music recording for over 30 years. Many items in my recording equipment inventory that determine the sound quality of my recordings, have come and gone. Some were good ,some were great and others were just not that great. I have worked with countless analog and digital storage media, cables, mic preamps, converters, etc. But over the years what has remained the most consistant and significant aspect of musical recording is the choice of microphones and their placement.
Testimonial:
Recently I had the opportunity to use the new Joe Grado Holographic microphones in various recordings I have made, ranging from solo piano, to chamber music, all the way to Beethoven's 9th symphony, right back to a full major performance of the Messiah and a solo violin and piano. The results were all really outstanding to say the least.
Frankly and without any reservations of any kind I can say that I have never heard a more accurate device for capturing total sound in all it's natural glory.
The way this mic works in the hall is a revelation in terms of it's ability to capture the sound of space in relation to the sound of the musical performance. A stunning emotional communication is immediately apparent upon the recorded playback. For first time I am able to hear the insides of violins and other instruments like I have never heard them before, with all the subtle harmonic structure fully evident.
The challenge that now remains for me is to learn how to really master the considerable potential of this microphone.
Describing the quality of the recordings I have made to date in subjective terms I find myself using words like exquisite, magnificent, no coloration of any sort, impressive power and weight in the sound, utter silence and so easy to use.
Joe Grado has done it again. His Holographic Scalera Scanner is a significant achievment and is a truly major contribution to the art of recording. Well beyond the present state of the art.
