The Joseph Grado Holographic Scalera Scanner has given a new briilliance to our recordings of live chamber music performances.
The Chamber Music Series at the Spoleto Festival brings together world class musicians and an unparalleled variety in repertoire with musical selections that can range from a solo cello work to an eight piece concerto. Because each concert can present the full range of chamber ensembles-we are not able to stop the concerts and readjust for optimal microphone positioning for each piece. In addition, the microphones must be flown so as not to interfere with the audience’s enjoyment. to add to our challenges, the hall is exceptionally "dry."
In the past, we have had to compromise according to these parameters, forgoing optimal microphone placement for something that would be "good enough" to work for all selections.
This year for the first time in 25 years,we have not had to strike a balance. We used the Joseph Grado Signature Holographic Scalera Scanner and this System has allowed us to have a perfect balance for all the musical pieces, replicating exactly what the audience experienced in the hall. We could tell an immediate and dramatic difference in the first new recordings over the previous recordings.
